12/07/2010 - Inter Regional Selection Criteria

The criteria for junior athletes to be selected on to the North East team for the Inter Regional Championships has now been added to the 2010 junior events section on the website. It can also be viewed below:

Sadly the Newcastle Junior Triathlon which was due to take place in August has had to be cancelled due to the organisers relocating. It is sad to lose another junior event in the region but we would like to wish Mr Arnott and his family all the best with the move and new life down south.

In light of the cancellation of the triathlon and the implications that this could have on the performance selection for the Inter Regional Championships in September we would like to clarify the current position regarding team selection.

There are 2 places plus 1 reserve for both male and female athletes in the T2 & T3 age groups and 3 places plus a reserve in the Youth category. The decision on which athletes will be invited to represent the North East region will be made by a panel comprising of Alan Copland, Colin Gardner and other Academy coaches. We will be taking into account the regional ranking points. In addition to the points table we will also be taking into account other performance criteria such as attendance at Academy sessions, potential to perform within a race situation, presentation and discipline shown at training sessions and other indicators including their potential to be effective ambassadors for our region.
