The four North East County Sport Partnerships (CSP’s) are planning the regional workforce development programme which will run from April 2011.
The CSP’s are able to provide sport clubs / coaches / officials with training opportunities and courses, some of which are required for clubs to attend in order to become an accredited club and other courses which may be of interest to you as a development opportunity.
In order to obtain an accurate assessment of the generic training needs (sports coach UK workshops, Running Sport courses, etc) I would be very grateful if you could each take a look at the attached document and let me know which of the courses listed you feel your club, or you as a coach would like to access in the future.
Please could I ask you to reply by Thursday 2nd February so I am then able to report back our Triathlon demands to the CSP’s by Friday 3rd February.
If you could reply by simply emailing, stating the title of the course(s) of interest to you that would be great:

Workshop Synopsis:
The following is a brief synopsis of some of the workshops listed in this programme. For more information or for those workshops where a synopsis is not detailed, please call or email the listed contact for more information.
A Club for All (Knowing your Club & its community):
This workshop identifies the benefits of opening up your club, to include a wider membership base – meaning more coaches, players, officials and increased revenue, improved eligibility for lottery funding, and quality ratings such as Clubmark; whilst ensuring the involvement and support of the local community. The ‘A Club for All’ workshop outlines how your club can benefit from reaching all members of the community, and explains how to reach out to them - young people, older people, those on low incomes, disabled people and people from ethnic minorities.
Action Planning For Your Club (Sports Development planning):
A sports development plan will tell outside bodies what your club needs, when it needs it and why it needs it. If your sports club follows a similar pattern each year - fixture lists, the term's programme or the end-of-year championships - creating a sports development plan will help you to raise your head above the weekly routine to ensure you move forward.
Developing Partnerships with Clubs and Schools: (A guide for Sports Volunteers)
This workshop aims to develop school and sport organisation partnerships to provide young people with quality opportunities to progress in sports from schools to clubs. Young people are the future of sports, and it is important that they are able to move from school to an adult environment that is of high quality, attractive to them, and that helps them progress in their chosen sport. Developing Partnerships with Clubs and Schools' focuses on two key areas in making the transition and can be tailored to meet the needs of schools and sports organisations.
Funding for Your Club:(Ideas & advice to raise money to support a project)
Every sports club could use more money and better publicity. This workshop provides practical ideas for raising funds from a range of sources, including fund-raising events and sponsorship. It will also help you to identify how you can promote your sports club more effectively.
Making the Most of your People (Workforce development planning):
Imagine what your club could achieve with a highly skilled 'workforce', including coaches, officials, committee members and support staff.
Funding is available to meet the training needs of sports clubs - whether that be for CRB checking and safeguarding children, training or coaching, and administrative training. But it is important to prioritise your needs.
This workshop shows you how to put together a workforce development plan. An effective one will help your club achieve its vision and improve your chances of benefiting from funding for skill building.
The Role of the Volunteer Coordinator:(The crucial role of overseeing Club volunteers)
Clubs will benefit greatly from having a volunteer coordinator – a single contact who supports their volunteers, knows them all by name and what each of them does. In this workshop, volunteers will learn exactly what this role entails and how they can become an even greater asset to their club by taking it on.
Valuing Your Sports Volunteers:
(How to recruit, retain, recognise & reward your volunteers)
Will help you to recruit more volunteers, motivate, retain, reward and manage them even more effectively. Develop an understanding of the importance of volunteers in English Sport.
Sport England Small Grants Programme:
(How to ensure your club is successful in its application)
If you have identified a project that requires financing, you could tap into anything from £300 to £10,000 of the £7 million grant Sport England makes available through this programme.
Safeguarding and Protecting Children:
This workshop is aimed at any individual who is involved with coaching, leading or assisting within children's activities. It covers topics including good coaching practice, recognising signs of abuse and the correct course of action to take if concerns are raised.
Safeguarding and Protecting Children 2: reflecting on practice (SPC2)
Developed in partnership with the NSPCC’s Child Protection in Sport Unit, this workshop is the long-awaited follow-up to ‘Safeguarding and Protecting Children’ that qualified coaches are expected to attend every three years. Instead of attending the same workshop again, coaches can now reinforce and strengthen their understanding of safeguarding without repeating the first workshop.
‘Safeguarding and Protecting Children 2’ differs from its predecessor in that it deliberately builds upon the practical experience you have already gained in your day-to-day role as a coach; giving you the chance to reflect upon as well as learn from other coaches’ experiences.
Equity in your Coaching:
This workshop is aimed at all coaches who wish to ensure that their coaching practices are fair and equitable and to raise coaches’ awareness as to the barriers that participants may face.
How to Coach Disabled People in Sport:
This workshop is aimed at all coaches and will provide them with tools to plan and adapt sessions accordingly and how to become more effective within their coaching practices.
Coaching Disabled Performers:
This workshop is aimed at those that currently coach disabled performers and are looking to review and extend their current knowledge. It will cover areas including terminology, communication skills, medical considerations and more.
An Introduction to the Fundamentals of Movement:

This workshop is aimed at coaches who currently work with young performers and covers topics including growth, social and emotional development, and how these relate to coaching in a practical manner.
An Introduction to Long Term Athlete Development:
This workshop is aimed at coaches who wish to learn or to expand on their knowledge and understanding of Long Term Athlete Development and how to build this into their coaching practice. It explores the LTAD model and what it's practical implications are and how to identify talented athletes and how to maximise performance.
Coaching the Whole Child: Positive Development through Sport:
Help children realise their potential. The workshop introduces the 5Cs of coaching children
Competence – Positive views of one's actions appropriate to capability
Confidence – Positive self worth and overall sense of being good at things
Connection – Positive bonds with people and institutions
Character and Caring - Respect for societal and cultural rules, possession of standards for correct behaviours, a sense of right and wrong, and a sense of sympathy and empathy for others
Creativity - Finding one's own solutions.
By learning how to incorporate the concept of the 5Cs into your coaching sessions you will improve the development of all your participants by offering them an exciting, challenging and well-structured environment in which they can discover all that is good about sport.
