A message from Gillian Barry
Hello my name is Gillian Barry, I have recently become employed by the University of Sunderland as a Sports Science officer. My main duties are to carry out fitness testing for the university’s elite athletes and I also offer my service to local athletes.
The laboratories at the University are- a Biomechanics lab equipped with video analysis equipment, gait analysis, balance systems, power systems and a biodex machine.
- a Physiology lab equipped with a heat chamber, treadmills, cycle ergometers and a racing bike. The equipment in the physiology lab offers for such as Vo2max, lactic threshold testing, running economy testing and other testing which can be made specific to triathletes.
- A Psychology lab which offers many psychometric tests.
The service is open to any athlete, from novice to elite. If any athlete would like any testing, I would be happy to do so. I am hoping to get a brochure together in the next week and also some flyers to hand out.
