The Darlington Triathlon is being organised by the Rotary Club of Darlington for the specific purpose of raising money for charity. The following is a statement from the organisers
In the past we have encouraged participants to raise money and we thank all who have given us support. This year again we are asking everyone to try and raise as much money as they can. The money raised will be donated to a West African Appeal and for our local hospice.
In the case of the former we are raising money for one of the most needy causes in the world. This is to provide safe drinking water for villages in West Africa. Less than six out of ten children live beyond five years and many of the diseases suffered can be avoided with the introduction of safe drinking water.
What will make an enormous difference this year is that a grant has been obtained from Rotary International which promises to multiply ten-fold any money raised by us in the fund-raising triathlon.. All money raised will qualify since there are no administrative costs incurred by the Rotary Club of Darlington.
We believe it possible, with your help and support, to make a big difference to those living in these villages by providing a basic lifeline of clean water. Something of course we take for granted in the Western World.
Please try and help us raise more money than ever before. What you raise personally, together with Rotary International contribution, may go a long way to sinking a well and provide a whole village with safe drinking water. What an achievement that would be!
