A report from Lisa Tweddle
On May 11th 2008, a team of 158 British triathletes toed the start line for this years European Age Group Triathlon Championships in Lisbon, Portugal. Conditions were unusually cold, wet and windy but GB were still the 2nd largest travelling team there, just behind Portugal's neighbours, Spain.
NE31's Lisa Tweddle contested the women's 20-24 years age group and had a great race to finish fourth and just miss out on a medal but had the consolation of being 1st Brit in her age group. The swim was in a harbour whilst the bike was windy and technical over cobbles but the run was flat and fast which had lovely views over the coast. GB took a hatful of 19 medals with gold for Oxford's Emma-Kate Lidbury and Scotlands Arnott Kidd taking one of many gold medals. There were 54 British athletes with top 10 finishers. A successful days racing over the olympic distance event.
