20/05/2009 - European Duathlon Championships

The following is an extract from the Hexham Courant. May we add the best wishes of all north-east tri/duathletes to these and anyone else that we don't know about who is going.

International Honours for Tynedale Athletes.

Budapest, Hungary awaits the arrival of four of Tynedale’s Athletes who have been selected to represent Great Britain in their respective age groups at The European Duathlon Championships on May 24.

For two of them it is a unique family double as James and Sally Dickinson are husband and wife and it is thought that they are the only married couple to represent their country in this event. For Sally it is first “International Vest” but James was proud to be selected to represent Great Britain in the World Championships last year in Canada.

Cliff Thornton, from Ovington, has also been selected to represent his country for the first time and he is understandably delighted. Cliff says I think it is quite an achievement that four members of the Hexham based One Life Racing have been selected and will be travelling to Budapest where they will proudly meet up at the Opening Ceremony on Friday 22nd.”

The fourth athlete is Barry Jameson who is not new to International Honours having been selected to represent Great Britain at European and World level on numerous occasions. It is Barry’s past achievements (he is current World Triathlon Champion and National Triathlon and Duathlon Champion in his age group) and coaching skills that has spurred on the likes of Sally, James and Cliff to take up the sport.

Good luck to Sally, James Barry and Cliff
