26/06/2009 - Prince Bishops Triathlon

A message from Richard Coates

It is with regret and apologies to all those people who have entered the 2009 Prince Bishops Sprint and Standard Distance Triathlons that we have to announce that we are being forced to cancel the events due to lack of numbers leading to the events not being financially viable.

We have not taken this decision lightly and have been reviewing numbers and other options over the last three weeks to do everything we can to put the races on. However a decision needed to be made this week and despite an intensive public awareness campaign the numbers did not improve as quick as we would like and I am sure you will appreciate that we cannot afford to run the race at a loss which would need to be funded from Ryton and Durham Tri Club funds. We also feel that we would not want to host a sub-standard event due to lack of funds particularly as the Prince Bishops has always enjoyed a reputation as being a race with very high standards.

It is hoped that this decision does not cause too much inconvenience and that you can find an alternative race to compete in at this time. We will of course refund your entry fee in full and will be sending cheques out to all entrants next week.

Finally can I thank everyone who has worked so hard to try to keep the event afloat and in particular thanks go to Sue and Colin Gardner for their efforts. We will still be looking to put on a 2010 race and hope we can attract more support at that time.
