The Regional Development Officer (RDO) has been appointed as part of the British Triathlon’s commitment to delivering a world respected development programme. Funded by Sport England, these posts have a clear remit as outlined below.

The Regional Development Officer takes a strategic role in the development of Triathlon in the North East. This role will facilitate the opportunities for clubs, volunteers, coaches, race organisers and everyone who volunteers in Triathlon.

For example: Your RDO doesn’t organise races – but – Georgie will help a potential race organiser by discussing possible venues, finding the equipment to put a race on (scaffolding, electronic timing, etc).

People Development

British Triathlon Key Objective - To increase the number of coaches, event organisers, referees and club officials and to enable them to develop their skills and levels of competence.

Your RDO will –
  • Work with the National Triathlon Education Manager, Sports Coach UK, Running Sports, County Sports Partnerships, Local Authorities and School Sport Partnerships to provide appropriate courses and programmes.
  • Work to increase the number of female coaches and officials.
  • Assist in raising the profile of the region’s coaches and officials.

Club Development

British Triathlon Key Objective - To increase the number of quality assured triathlon clubs in the North East.

Your RDO will –
  • Support clubs in the adoption of British Triathlon policies including: Equity, Child Protection and Code of Conduct for officials, volunteers, parents and competitors.
  • Support and encourage clubs to achieve and use the Club Mark and Star Mark accreditation schemes to develop.
  • Work to create and develop partnerships with schools and clubs through the school sport partnership system.

Youth Development

British Triathlon Key Objective - To increase the number of people taking up the sport of Triathlon

Your RDO will –
  • Work with event organisers to facilitate race series for adults, children & youths.
  • Work to increase the numbers participating in these series throughout the region.
  • Work with event organisers to facilitate a series of taster events or events suitable for novices.
