Inter Regional Championships 2006: This year’s IRC’s will be held in Glasgow on Saturday 2nd September. Nigel confirmed that he was willing to be team manager for this year but not after that.

The qualifying events for the IRC’s will be:
Haltwhistle Children’s Triathlon

With the winner qualifying in each age group at each race. If the winner of the first race wins the second, the second place finisher at Monkwearmouth will qualify.

Also: in the youth category the 3rd place on the team will be reserved for the highest regional finisher at the National Youth Championships.

Regional Academy: Planned to start in March 2006. The academy will be based at Kenton High School. Sessions will be monthly on a Saturday morning from 10am. Academy will be aimed at 11 to 16 yr olds.

A working group will be set up which will be chaired by Amanda Cantle. Sessions will be coached by Scott Holmes, Bob Hogg & Colin Gardener.

The standards set for the academy are available from Paul Jones.

NE Club League: The North East has run a Regional Series for a number of years making the best out of next to no resources. We believe it has worked and the North East has got something that no other region can offer its members. This year the region has to become more self sufficient and although the region has received a grant from Sport England our resources need to be become sustainable. The Regional Committee has decided that we are going to charge a small annual fee per club to allow people to compete. If you don't want to compete for a club then you can pay an individual entry fee.

Club Entry Fee is £25 per club per year. This will allow ALL members of that club to count towards the new league system for clubs and ALL British Triathlon members within that club to compete in the NE Grand Prix. It has always been the case that ONLY British Triathlon members can compete in the Grand Prix. Club Entry Forms have been sent to club secretaries!

Individual Entry Fee is £10 per individual per year. This will allow non club members but British Triathlon members to compete in the NE Grand Prix 2006.
So in other words... we are promoting joining the clubs in our area. We have some of the best clubs in the country in the North East. For details about NE clubs and a list of Grand Prix events checkout your regional website: www.northernpulse.org.uk
Club Registration fee means that we can run the grand prix a little more self contained. This means that we can augment the existing budget from the region to maintain the number of prizewinners in each age group. We are also expecting to be able to put the full running league results more prominently on the regional website, so people can see how their club is performing in a league table of clubs.
The North East Male Club and Female Club League would be separate:
Male league and female league table
Any club member counts - providing club entry fee paid before that race!!!
Can be different counting members each race
First 4 men and first 3 women of any age to count
Race result worked out on placings not time and simply added up (lowest score wins!)
5 league points for first male / female team; 4pts for 2nd; 3 for 3rd, 2 for 4th and 1 for 5th
League updated after each triathlon in the North East Grand Prix
ALL Triathlons in the North East Grand Prix to count - NOT DUATHLONS OR AQUATHLONS
Best 6 results from Triathlons to count (ie. If your team won 5 times and finished 2nd twice – your best results would be 5 wins and 1 second)
If a tie at end of year, go on number of individual race wins, if still tied 2nds, 3rds etc.

NE Coach & Club Development Project:
As a region we need to encourage people to attend the courses being run in partnership with the County Sports Partnerships. In addition we really need to push the Level One Coaching Course within our clubs. There are various sources of funding to apply for. For more information contact Paul Jones (RDO).

NE Referees Courses:
British Triathlon NE is hosting a Level One Referee’s workshop on Wednesday 8th February. Course is free to British Triathlon Club Members. Workshop starts at 7pm and will be finished by 9pm.

Level Two referee course will be held on Saturday March 18th at Newcastle Road Baths, Sunderland. Course starts at 9:30am and finishes about 4pm.

Existing Equipment bought with Regional Pool:
  • 15x Road Signs with “Caution Cyclists”
  • 5x Road Signs with “Caution Runners”
  • 50m Plastic Mesh Fencing with 25 stakes
  • 2000m of Red/white Barrier Tape
  • 5x Stopwatches
Suggested List for Regional Pool of Equipment
  • Finish Banner: Single Side with logo - £100
  • Air Horn: - £12.50
  • Foil Blankets x 50 - £50
  • Buoys for Open Water (1.5m x 1.15m) - £370 each

  • SAQ set - £49.99 each
It was suggested that we went for buoys that were 2m high and also get some plastic cycle numbers.

Paul was asked to go ahead with the order.

It was also suggested that the committee asked for £50 contribution from clubs wishing to use the regional pool of equipment as this year there would be over £3000 worth of equipment.

Paul agreed to manage this.

Ed Cooper has agreed to store most of the equipment at Barnstom Mere Training Centre.

Ed will also look into insuring the equipment.

Paul will produce an inventory of equipment which will be signed when someone picks up the equipment. The signatory is responsible for returning the equipment intact.

Presentation Dinner: Provisionally Friday 15th December 2006. Ed to book venue.

Date of next meeting: 12th April @ 7pm.
AGM will be 12th April @ 8pm.
Subsequent meetings will be: 12th July, 11th October

British Triathlon / Tri England: Ed raised the issue of someone from the region going to these meetings. Whilst he can go, it would be a struggle at the moment. Each region needs to attend these meetings to ensure region power is used. There are three meetings per year.

Next meeting is 12th February in Loughborough.

John Howells volunteered to attend this.

Baby Jones: Congratulations to Paul & Helen on the birth of their daughter: Rhiannon Kate Jones who was born on Wednesday 11th January at 3:27am, weighing in at 6 lbs 13oz.

Complaint re Cleveland Biketraks Children’s event:
Nigel Ellam raised an issue with the above event in 2005. There is nothing in place within the region with regards this…
…to be raised at British Triathlon Head Office.

As the region doesn’t have a complaints/ grievance procedure it was agreed by the Committee that we should have one. Amanda offered to draft one with Nigel based on the ASA and city of Sunderland ones for the next meeeting.

Thank you to those who attended. Fantastic turnout.

Meeting closed at 8:55pm.
