24/10/2004 - Regional Committee Meeting

North East Region Committee Meeting - 24th October 2004
At the Rainbow Centre Coulby Newham 8 pm

Present – Paul Jones, Eddie Cooper, Sam Haddock, John Howells, Ian Maddison, Tony Weed, Tony Dixon, Tony Main, Sandra Main.

Apologies – Nigel Elam

Minutes of last meeting – None taken, as it was only an informal chat.

Race calendar for 2005 – Paul will send committee members the provisional dates, not to be publicised at this point in time because it will make life difficult for race organisers. Ripon may change dates again and clash with two other events. The Region will have all last years events plus six new races. These will take place in Hartlepool, Northumberland, Sunderland, Wansbeck, Helvellyn and Blyth. All sprint distances apart from Blyth which will be Olympic distance and part of the National Championship series.

Grand Prix series 2005 – We discussed how many events should be included for next year and everyone voted to include Weardale and Prince Bishops as we did in the past. We decided it would be easier to run if we had any six events regardless of distance and include BTA day licence members as well. There will be 16 events included, all triathlons. Ripon and Helvellyn, although technically not in our region will be included in the regional grand prix if they don’t clash with any other event in our region.

Day Licence Fees – The BTA will discuss the cost of this at their AGM in December and then Paul will advise all race organisers how much to charge. We discussed charging a bit more to put in to the regional fund. When race organisers send in their race registration forms they can advise that the cost is to be arranged at a later date.

BTA Level 1 Coaching Course – This course in March is nearly full so anyone interested needs to contact the BTA immediately.

Regional E-Mail List – Paul is compiling a list, all club secretaries will be on it. If you want to be included let him know. The list will be used to draw people’s attention to things on the web site including our new Regional Newsletter, which is starting in January.

Treasurers Report – Nothing as yet.

Northern Pulse Web Site – John is having space problems, he can buy more space for a cost of £2.40 per month. I was agreed that he should do this because this web site is a huge success and very valuable to the Region.

Any Other Business

Regional Prize Presentation 2005 – It was suggested we could look at bringing the cost down so that more people could come, maybe have a buffet. Paul will speak to Jem to see if he is willing to organise it still.

Regional Sanction Officer – Peter Craggs has stepped down, we need to officially thank him for all his work. Paul will write something for Northern Pulse. Tony Main is willing to take on the role. New race organisers may need to seek his advice and he can help them with risk assessments.

Regional Pool of Equipment – It was suggested that each club contributes £50 and we purchase marshal bibs and new road signs that can be used by all race organisers in the region. These can be passed on during the season and Paul will help with storage out of season.

Paul agreed to attend a meeting at Hartlepool Marina in November in connection with the new event that they are organising.

Team Duathlon – This was organised at short notice this year but went reasonably well. John suggests he will organise it for a Sunday morning, early season possibly April. He is going to seek advice on whether it would be safer organised through the BTA with insurance. If so, he will charge a small fee to cover costs.

Team Triathlon Championships – It was suggested that club teams entering Cleveland Biketraks Relays event could compete for a team trophy, which could be presented at the annual prize presentation. The region would purchase one male and one female trophy. We will consult the race organiser first.

North Eastern Children’s Triathlon Series – This is run by a donation from the BTA. There are issues around children from out of the region competing and should a small fee be charged. The committee felt that this should be discussed fully with Nigel at the next committee meeting.

Aquathlon – May 28th 2005 – Open water swim and run. This will be part of the North East Regional Championships. The top three teams will go to the National Championships.

The provisional date for the next meeting was Sunday January 9th at 7.30 to be arranged by Eddie Cooper at the training centre.
