Matter Arising:
Race Calendar for this season. This is now up on the website and entry forms will be available from organisers as soon as possible. City of Sunderland’s race may move, but we are still awaiting confirmation, and hopefully it won’t clash with other local events. We are still awaiting information from Wansbeck; all other races are going ahead as planned. Paul Jones is going to check if Ripon and Cleveland Long Course are on the same weekend, there was some confusion about this. North East Sprint Championships may move away from Weardale this year and possibly be held at Hartlepool Marina, Paul is checking confirmation. Prince Bishops will be the Olympic Championships race again this year. All race information is going to be emailed to the 220 Magazine for publication.
Presentation Dinner is currently getting looked into by Sam who will have a possible venue lined up for the next committee meeting, somewhere central for all clubs to attend.
Regional Pool of Equipment - committee members and majority of clubs are keen to do it. Paul Jones is to take charge of this, as he’s more accessible for all clubs to contact. It was suggested an initial fee of £50 per club who wish to use this pool of equipment, this will be revised later in the year to whether it becomes an annual fee.
One Stop Plan Update:
This starts in April 2005, all forma have been submitted and it looks like we as a region are well on our way to reaching our targets, if anyone has any questions please speak to Paul when he’s next visiting your club or contact him via email.
Schools Aquathlon:
This year there are races taking place throughout the region and all information can be accessed on the website. If all events take place there will be around two and a half thousand kids taking part. The hopeful aim is to eventually make one race a championship event to become a possible talent identification race. Also to have links between the schools and all local clubs, each club to have a representation at these events wherever possible as races will be in school time. It will also help push clubs to register for star/ club mark.
North East Children’s Triathlon:
The AGM minutes are available on the website if anyone wants to view them, there were a few problems with qualifications and series results, people complained about non-regional children competing, however this has all been cleared up for those who didn’t quite understand it before. This year sees more events in the region and hopefully one being funded by grants enabling the entry to be free if it is successful. Some races have an open wave at the end to try and encourage parents to participate.
Coaching Course:
BTA Level 1 course still has places available (approx 2). Cost of the course is £195; there is hopefully a Level 2 course on in September this year.
Star/Club mark:
Starting at the end of this month there are free workshops for those who are BTA members. Attending these courses is essential for the above awards. No news yet on a referee’s course; there is a possibility of one being on before the season starts.
Newsletter:
This is going well and proving to be very popular, most people have been receiving it via email with some hard copies being sent through the post. If anyone has any ideas or information for the newsletter please forward to Lisa Tweddle at NE31 Tri club or to Paul Jones who will pass it on.
Any Other Business:
Event coverage by photographs was suggested by Sam who happens to be a photographer, to try and generate a little money for the north-east committee. Information about this will be available at the next committee meeting.
The AGM to be a stand alone meeting and not tagged on to the end of a race like it has been for a few years now. Possibility of having a guest speaker to encourage more people to attend. Venue likely to be the Tyne and Wear Fire Service Training Centre, date to be confirmed.
Finances since Ian took over seam to be ok, although there are concerns on how much is being spent on the Annual Award Dinner and Trophies. If this changes ideas are needed on where this is to be spent instead.
Name of the region. It appears that on the BTA Website we are known as the Northern Region, however we are the North East and have continued to use the North East as our name. Paul Jones is looking into this to clarify the situation.
Date of Next Meeting:
This is to be confirmed. There will be a meeting before the AGM; we are awaiting confirmation of dates for both.
